The turn of the century has brought with it much betterment’s in technology. Not since the industrial revolution has the country, or the whole world accomplished anything on this level of adjustment. The biggest adjustment has come in the form of social media, and search engine marketing has redefined the landscape of the country. This is why marketing and social media belong together in the twenty first century.

In the year 2000 nobody could have figured that the internet would unavoidably play a huge role in the way we interact, advertise, shop, live and work. It’s an amazing advance since the turn of the century, when the internet was an untapped and relatively little used resource. Now more than half of the population of the human race has more access to internet than they do access to clean living facilities and hospitals.

As well one more astounding fact is that over one billion people living on earth right now are on a social media website such as Facebook or Twitter. This is one more reason why marketing and social media need to go hand in hand, thats a lot of people to reach out to. If your organization reaches even just 10% of one billion people, thats still one hundred million people. That is still a whole hell of a lot of zeros after a one.

The numbers are in your blessing if you’re in business and wish to market online. It’s also a excellent way to go global, seeing as how more and more countries are on the internet than there are countries that are not on the internet. So just based on those figures alone, the odds of success are seriously tipped in your favor. That is a lot of people who have access to the internet. The future of your company is in your hands, and you don’t want butter fingers while behind the wheel, do you?

Search engine marketing is also a excellent way for your business to get it’s feet off of the ground. Everyone desires to get higher in Google, wouldn’t you if you were on the internet? You cannot possibly want your competition to be higher than you on the worlds most searched search engine, it’s not a good way to do business. As well the average person uses Google at least 10 times during the course of their day. You want to let them know you’re out there.

SOPA And PIPA Censorship Could Constrain The Way We Use Twitter For Business

Congress is currently considering two bills that have serious implications for the way people and companies in this country conduct business and network online. The bills causing the commotion are the “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) and the “Protect-IP Act” (PIPA). The sponsors of these bills claim that the legislation is aimed at foreign companies that break U.S. copyright laws. However if Congress passes SOPA and PIPA it will set a precedent for censorship of the internet. It will affect everything from the way companies use Twitter for business to the sharing of material on sites like Google, Bing, and Wikipedia. Everyone from the small-time marketing firm to the multinational corporation will be under scrutiny.

SOPA and PIPA would impart new power to the U.S. Department of Justice. The department would be tasked with seeking court orders against websites accused of permitting or facilitating copyright infringement. The legislation is suspiciously vague and worrisome to a multiplicity of websites, businesses, and people. The initial lines of the SOPA bill read: “To promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation by combating the theft of U.S. property, and for other purposes.” It is these “other purposes” that are fueling apprehension in America.

The omission of specificity in the SOPA and PIPA legislation implicates many things for the U.S. Department of Justice and the online community in Amerca. It means that the department can prohibit online advertising networks from conducting business with allegedly infringing websites, block search engines from linking to certain websites, and can demand that internet service providers block access to such sites. The Department of Justice will practically become an online police officer, moderator, and judge. The department will get to decide what characterizes infringement and which websites to punish. The ambiguous character of the bills can lead to indiscriminate attacks and harassment against targeted companies, people, and websites.

The line separating innocent and guilty parties will be fuzzy. Someone who uses Twitter for business to post updates and information about their product or service could be hit with a lawsuit because someone else with similar products or services does not want competitors. Court battles over who is infringing upon who and what infringement means specifically will clog the judiciary and distract the Department of Justice from going after and prosecuting other criminals who pose physical dangers to people. A marketing firm contracted to publicize an infringing website can be penalized or shut down even if the firm is unaware that its client is violating any laws.

The SOPA and PIPA sponsors are most likely well intentioned. There is a problem regulating and protecting copyright and property law on the internet that should be looked at. But Congress would be ill-advised to pass this legislation because it creates more problems than it solves. SOPA and PIPA will change the online atmosphere in this country from open and informative to censored and anxious. Congress should not censor the Twitter for business people, the entrepreneurial marketing firm, local business leaders, media innovators, and the sharing of knowledge and information on the internet. To tackle online copyright infringement we need to have an open forum discussion like the one taking place online right now in opposition to SOPA and PIPA. The world wide web is a democratic institution that will be destroyed if left to the enmity of special interest groups and lobbyists on Capitol Hill.

Being such a new medium some marketing professionals are having trouble using web marketing to its full potential. Here are a few tips to make sure your next marketing campaign makes fantastic implement of online advertising.

1. Get Your Point Across quickly- Online consumers have a tiny span. You need to make sure you get your point across to them quickly. If your web marketing is long-winded and takes more than a few moments to read and understand you are doing something incorrectly. The longer your marketing message is the worse chance you have to lose the attention of the consumer.

2. The Ad Should Embody Your Company- You want a consumer to be able to look at your online advertising and determine exactly what your company is all about. Are you a hip and fun company or a more formal corporate business? It is essential to consider what the voice of your marketing is. Every word is critical so take time to get it right.

3. Develop a Custom Landing Page- If your web marketing is for a certain product it is vital the user is taken to a landing page with information about the particular product. If the advertisement just takes them to your company’s homepage and they can’t find the product they are interested in then you’ve lost them. Custom landing pages can be informative and drive sales. The client clicked on your link for a reason, provide them with the content they are looking for.

4. Monitor and Make Required Changes- The great thing about online advertising is the metrics available to you. You can see how many people are clicking on the ad, how a myriad of folk have seen the ad, and a ton of other important measures. If something isn’t doing what it should do then change it. Online advertising allows for quick changes to be made, unlike print or television where the advertising has to be submitted well ahead of the time.

How Marketing And Social Media Can Change Your Business, And Why You Should Consider Search Engine Marketing

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

What do marketing and social media have to do with each other? And where does search engine marketing fit into this picture? Social media has exploded onto the arena, and since 2005 has become one of the most dominant forms of connection in our modern time. Search engine marketing is also on the rise, since Google’s creation earlier on in the last decade the internet has changed drastically.

Today social media has bloomed into a new creature. A drastic change such as the one we are witnessing has not occurred within our country since the Industrial Revolution ultimately changed the landscape of the economics of the United States. It’s considered one of the most extravagant changes to have occurred in human history because of the speed of which this change had occurred. Since 2005, social media has grown so massive that if companies such as Facebook were to break off and become their own nations, it would rank as the third largest in the world.

The marketing field is also adjusting from the old ways, to new ways. The older ways implied posting ads in print media, and clamoring for space on cable television, and radio advertisements. While these mediums are still vital, the Internet is now the fourth medium. With the rapid, and unseen growth of the internet, the landscape is now changing, and it’s changing faster than most will be able to keep up with.

If you were to go to a marketing organization in the 1980′s, and even the 1990′s, and tell them that rather soon the Internet is going to be the new place to do commerce, many people would snicker at you. If you were to tell them that there would be websites where people could associate with other people anywhere in the world, communicate, share stories, photos, likes and dislikes without ever needing a telephone line, or a fax machine, and all of it could be done instantly, they would send you to the looney bin with a straight jacket on. Well it’s here. It’s now, and anything is possible.

Avoid the trends at your own jeopardy. To not be on the internet, to not have social media guide your industry adjustments in some small part, to not be marketing on Google and other sites is to not be doing smart business. Take advantage of a tool, one of the best tools humanity had invented to make its life simpler. To not be taking advantage of something this great is to be ignorant of the world.
