Quick Lessons on How to Spend Less on Family Vacation Every Day

As children get ready to enjoy spring break and the long summer, their parents start worrying about how to save money on family vacations. A little bit of research and planning is all that’s needed to get to know the destination better. This knowledge about the destination allows for savings on everything from local transportation and accommodations to meals.

Room service is bound to be exorbitant at hotels. Laundry and dry-cleaning, parking, internet usage and pet fees are among the add-ons that hotels normally use to pad the final bill. A little bit of planning and opting for the right choices can help families on vacation avoid these add-ons.

Early booking: One way to bring the costs down a notch or two is to book early. Hotel room rates and airfare go up and down all the time, dictated by market forces. But the one absolute here is that early booking is invariably cheaper. It’s also important to remember the dangers of leaving it until the last minute, especially for a holiday the kids are dying to go on.

Package deals: Another way to get steep discounts is to look at all the available package deals. For example, theme park and resort tickets are a lot cheaper if bought in a package deal that includes hotel stay, airfare and car rentals. Also, there are often packages designed for families, where kids can fly, stay and eat free as long as they are accompanied by paying adults. There may even be daily deals available now and then, that offer 50-60 percent discounts on hotels, attraction tickets and airfare.

Family-friendly resorts: Even upscale hotels that have all kinds of facilities may not be ideal for the peculiar needs of families with children. This calls for a family-friendly hotel or resort with a supervised playground or nursery for little children, and things like extra beds or connecting rooms, so that families can feel at home. Some of these hotels may also allow children and pets to stay free.

Apartment rentals: But the biggest savings across the board come from choosing to stay in an apartment, home rental or a condo. Two adults and 2 children will find a two-bedroom unit very spacious and luxurious. It takes care of everything from the parking to laundry and a full kitchen for preparing meals. Compare all this against the cramped confines and cost of two hotel rooms or a suite, plus all the add-ons.

Public transport: Those planning how to save money on family vacations often neglect public transport. It just needs some advance study to know how a city’s bus and train or subway system works. If used, buses and trains are a whole lot cheaper than car rentals and cabs. It saves on parking charges, and public transport is the most eco-friendly option.

How to Save Money on Shoes for Running Around Without Help

Whether you are just beginning a walking regimen or have been competing in triathlons for years, you need good athletic shoes. These can be quite expensive so its valuable to know how to save money on running shoes. A great way to save is to know just which type of shoe makes sense for you.

Your first step is to identify how you will be using your athletic shoes. There is a variety of running shoes, each designed for a different purpose. If you are starting out on the tread mill, you might not need a more expensive shoe designed for a cross country runner.

Understanding where you will be using your athletic footwear is also important. The treads on a specific model may work better in specific environments. If you anticipate doing a lot of off road running, then you probably want a pair that can handle that.

Another critical step to ensuring that you’re spending your money smartly is understanding your feet. Feet have two main features that impact which models will work best for them. First, you should know how your ankles roll, either inwards, outwards, or more aligned with your legs. The second one is your arch and whether it is high, medium, or low.

Now that you can hone in on the shoe type for you and not waste money on too much shoe, you can get an idea of what your ideal shoe type generally costs. You need to know this baseline before you can find out whether any given price is a deal. The price ranges can often be quite large. Knowing the price range will help you stay on its lower end.

Armed with the model types that are best for you and the price range, you can now do internet research looking for sales and special deals. You can create deal alerts on a variety of consumer comparison shopping sites. One issue to research in particular is whether there is a model on your list that is soon to be discontinued. Discontinued shoes will often be available at lower prices.

Another place to find low prices is directly through the manufacturers themselves. They often have outlets with lower prices. It might also be possible to find prices at outlets that aren’t advertised anywhere.

Some sports teams or running groups have negotiated special discounts for members. If you belong to one, you might benefit from that agreement. These suggestions are just some of the ways how to save money on running shoes.

The Netflix coupons here will help you save some money every single month so you can save enough to buy the running shoes that you want, whether there is a sale going on or not.

Horse Of The Year Zenyatta In Foal

Even though both 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta have retired to produce a new generation of champions, their rivalry continues.

Just days after Rachel Alexandra’s owners announced that she was pregnant,Zenyatta was also confirmed to be ‘in foal’. Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, wife of trainer John Shirreffs and the racing manager for owners Ann and Jerry Moss, made the announcement ‘in character’ as the superstar mare on ‘her’ website at Zenyatta.com. The 7 year old Zenyatta was bred to 2006 Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini two weeks ago and the pregnancy was discovered on Thursday morning after a routine ultrasound.

Zenyatta’s website regularly features opinions attributed to the mare written by Ingordo-Shirreffs. Here’s how ‘she’ give the big new:

I guess my guys at the farm could not wait a moment longerand they scanned me this morning. I just had to share the news with you!

I AM IN FOAL!

This is my 15 day scan! From what I am told, everything looks fabulous and solid. The embryo looks to be a good size. So, at this time, everything is WONDERFUL!

I will be rescanned at about 28 days and if that is all A-OK, my next scan will be at the 40-42 day time period from the date I was bred. As Dottie clarify to you earlier, the latter scan is in fact very important. If all is perfect at that time, then I am pretty well on my way in my pregnancy. This is all so incredible and so new to me! I JUST LOVE IT!

As Zenyatta/IngordoShirreffs notes, she’ll obtain another ultrasound in a couple of weeks followed by another scan around 42 days. These timeframes are characteristic for broodmares since miscarriages and false pregnancies aren’t unusual. If these scans are both positive, there’s a much better possibility that she’ll be able to carry the pregnancy to term. Or, as ‘Zenyatta’ put it:

HOOVES CROSSED for the news on my next scan to be just at POSITIVE!

Zenyatta now stands at Lane’s End Farm near Versaille, Kentucky. Sire Bernardini is owned by Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum and set at Darley Stud at Jonabell Farm in Lexington. Rachel Alexandra is owned by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke, and was mated to Preakness and Breeder’s Cup Classic winner Curlin who they also own.

Bears’ Great Sayers Surprised With Teams’ Skillful

Hall of Fame running back Gayle Sayers made screamer in the off season with a scathing critique of the active Chicago Bears team that drag no punches in calling out the players or coach Lovie Smith. Sayers, who played his entire career in Chicago, incurred the wrath of several players with his comments including linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Inquest recently about the team’s powerful 2010 regular season and berth in the NFC Championship game, he didn’t back off his earlier assessment of the team but confess that he was surprised with the Bears’ success.

Sayers’ incendiary comments were made at a booster banquet in his home town of Omaha, Nebraska:

“Cutler hasn’t done the job. Urlacher, I don’t know how good he’s going to be coming back [from surgery]. They need a couple wide receivers, a couple defensive backs. They haven’t done a good job.

“If Lovie doesn’t do it this year, I think he go away. He had a good squad the [2006] Super Bowl year. Nothing came together for him the last couple years.”

Just as he didn’t shy away from his candid comments at the time, he’s not trying to distance himself from them now that the Bears are one win away from the Super Bowl:

“They had an amazing season. I’m all for Brian Urlacher, he had a great season. The whole troupe had a great season.

“I told I enjoy it. That’s the way I felt about this team, that it would be very, very fine for them to get into the Super Bowl, and they’re almost there. I have nothing against Brian Urlacher. I have nothing versus the Bears. I told it like it was, that I felt they had an excellent way to go to reach the Super Bowl.”

“I think what happened is the Bears are the team that has a few injuries. Lot of injuries in [the NFL]. The Bears got healthy beginning and went on in and had a great season.”

He did take as a special case with a recent comment by former teammate Dick Butkus that Urlacher was the superior linebacker in Bears’ franchise history:

“Never. Never. Don’t even analyze that. Dick Butkus is blowing smoke. He knows. He knows who’s the supreme, and that’s Dick Butkus.”

In fact, Sayers ranks Urlacher behind Mike Singletary who was the defensive leader of Chicago’s great 1985 Super Bowl winner.

“Singletary was a great, great football player. Urlacher is a great, great football player also, but he did not have the killer instinct Singletary had.

“Singletary was second to Dick Butkus, simple as that. I’m not going to say nothing about this.”

The Bears host their longtime rivals the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. The current NFL line on the game has the Bears installed as a +3′ home underdog with the total set at 43.
