From all accounts, Nintendo’s Wii Fit is fun, but are there other advantages? Does it actually give a workout? Is it worth the cost? Is it to hard or too easy? Is it complicated to set up? Let us take a look at some of the Wii Fit advantages.

The majority of people lead sedentary lives. Most of us work sitting down at a desk, not at hard manual labor. Even children, who used to be seen outside everyday after school, remain inside playing games or listening to music. In short, people do not get enough exercise. This game is a great tool to use to get the family up and moving together. It is actually fun to watch others using the game. There are 40 different activities and three different levels to use. Each person’s fitness statistics can be locked so nobody else can see your weight or other information.

Compared to buying a membership at the local gym, the Wii Fit is much less expensive. A gym, depending on where you live, will cost around $100 per month; that is $1200 per year, not including the gas to get to the gym. The Fit can be purchased for less than one hundred dollars.

People today tend to be pressed for time. Trips to the gym, if you do have a membership, can easily be neglected for lack of time. Not so with the Wii Fit. Since the only commute is to your living room or den, you can use it whenever you have spare minutes. All of the routines are less than an hour.

Each time you step onto the Wii balance board it will take your body mass index (BMI) and your weight before you begin. This is very convenient for tracking your progress. No more remembering to do it by hand, losing the records or messing with the scale balance mechanism to try and get the lowest possible reading. The games are chosen according to how many pounds each individual wants to lose or gain.

Prior to beginning the exercises, each player creates a Mii character that will represent him or her. When moves are made on the balance board, the Mii does the same moves in the game. The graphics are completely un intimidating, the instructions are very easy to understand. Each person starts at just the right level to be challenging but not so difficult to cause frustration.

The set-up process is very basic. Assuming you already own the Wii console itself, just plug in the balance board, put the game CD into the console and begin getting fit. It is fun and easy, even for people who have no experience using video games.

Now, even though there are many Wii Fit advantages, it is not something that will increase fitness in everyone. If you are already in great shape and consistently make exercise a part of your daily routine, the game is not likely to improve your level of fitness. However, if you are like the majority of people, out of shape, living a sedentary lifestyle and who want to get into better physical condition, the Nintendo Wii Fit is an excellent choice.

Arthur Rofield is a great fan of Wii Fit ever since they were release. His particular interest lie in how Nintendo Wii Console is used as a modern day medium to bring distant family and relationships together
